The Ken Whalen Surf Challenge is in memory of Ken’s love for family, surfing and the beach. The goal for the event is to encourage kids (including CAF adaptive surfers and Rady Children’s Hospital Cancer Families) to strengthen their connection with surfing by competing and having a fun day at the beach with their friends and family. This event is geared towards beginner and intermediate surfers as a way in which to deepen their love for surfing. We focus more on having fun than the actual competition.
Share your love of surfing and the ocean safely.
There’s no cost to enter the competition.
Every participant will receive a free event t-shirt.
Facing our challenges helps us focus on what is important in life.
Thriving after cancer so kids can celebrate and surf!
The ocean, in its infinite diversity, was a stable, reliable element in Ken’s life and over the years this love and connection grew stronger.
